Great book for a beginner. The initial cookbooks and recipes I browsed were mostly daunting and called for ingredients I had never heard of or much less could obtain easily. And although I have always cooked, I find that this type of diet sometimes requires certain ways of cooking with which I'm not very familiar. Frustrating. But then I saw a mention of Veganomicon somewhere (I think it might actually have been here) and decided to order the book. So glad I did! It has been extremely helpful, just in the couple weeks or so that I've had it. The "supermarket friendly" stuff is absolutely my favorite as well.

Thanks for the other recommendations, I'll be sure to try them out as I become more comfortable. My foray into trying to "veganize" my traditional recipes has been hit and miss (soy milk pudding!), so hopefully that will get better with time as well.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17474007028162519136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6517797058287564272.post-55580994619871183582010-07-09T09:57:10.683-07:002010-07-09T09:57:10.683-07:00I agree that if you are going to pursue a vegan di...I agree that if you are going to pursue a vegan diet, you will be making a lot of your own food. I also think accessibility to ingredients is key. I was disappointed Alicia Silverstone's cookbook (which I didn't buy) contained so many harder to find or pricey ingredients. For the masses, you really want to include what people have easy access to.

Instead of cookbooks, I love all the recipe resources on the web. Almost all the animal rights groups (Humane Society, Farm Sanctuary, Mercy for Animals, etc.) have great recipes.

PETA has a very easy to use site I love: http://www.vegcooking.com/

You can browse by meal type, cuisine type, etc., and they also have festive holiday/seasonal ideas.Catherinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06488301404397970300noreply@blogger.com
